What are the requirements for identifying an onsite mentor for Intern/M.A.T. candidates at Reach University?

The mentor is required to complete 2 hours of orientation provided by Reach and must have completed a minimum of 8 hours of formal training in coaching adult learners.

Before an intern begins daily teaching responsibilities and within 30 days of the academic year’s start, the employer must identify an onsite mentor who meets the CCTC’s criteria. The onsite mentor or other designated individuals must provide adequate supervision, with at least one mentor fulfilling the following minimum qualifications:
  • Possess a valid Clear or Life credential aligned with the intern candidate’s focus.
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience.
  • Hold English learner (EL) authorization if providing EL support, applicable also to interns pursuing the Early Completion Option (ECO) through Reach.

The onsite mentor must participate in 2 hours of orientation provided by Reach and have completed at least eight (8) hours of formal training in coaching adult learners. Documentation of this training must be submitted to Reach. If the mentor has not yet completed this training, they must attend the training offered by Reach to meet CCTC requirements.

Importantly, the onsite mentor cannot serve as the intern teacher’s evaluator.
