Intern Teacher Credential and M.A.T. Teaching Program Description: Candidates working as an intern teacher while pursuing a California Preliminary Teaching Credential and M.A.T. degree.
Intern candidates are novice teachers. They are employed full-time while attending to coursework to become credentialed. Interns attend three-hour classes weekly and are expected to engage in approximately 10 hours of weekly independent studies. They also engage in biweekly one-on-one coaching with a Reach University-provided field supervisor, five hours of weekly onsite supervision, and two cycles of the CalTPA.
Enrollment in the program is a heavy workload beyond the responsibilities of a typical credentialed teacher. Employers are responsible for ensuring that the intern they have hired is supported to be successful both in the classroom and in their graduate coursework at Reach University.
Program Components:
- Fieldwork/Employment as a teacher of record where field work, practice, support and supervision, and application of coursework to teaching take place. The Local Education Agency ensures candidates are placed in appropriate teaching assignments.
- The Local Education Agency ensures that candidates are supported in completing their coursework and applying what they have learned to their teaching.
- Support and supervision are shared responsibilities between the Local Education Agency and Reach University.
- California Teaching Performance Assessment (CalTPA) support is provided by Reach University and is augmented by onsite support.
- M.A.T. electives candidates in the two-year pathway must take 2 elective courses during the summer between the intern course sequence.
